Paleovalley Bone Broth Protein vs. Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides: Which One is Better for You?

Paleovalley Bone Broth Protein powder and Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides are two heavy-hitter collagen supplements, but how do they compare? I give Paleovalley Bone Broth Protein powder a strong edge, because of the quality, taste, and digestibility. That being said, the price for Vital Proteins is less per serving and the shipping is slightly faster. I go into more details and give actual photos and videos below.

Ingredient Quality

The main difference in ingredient quality between the two is where the ingredients come from.

Made from 100% grass-fed bone broth. Made from cow hides.

Color Comparison

The color of Paleovalley is quite a bit richer in color, whereas the Vital Proteins is much more white. This does make sense as Paleovalley comes from grass-fed bone broth whereas Vital Proteins comes from cow hides.

Shipping Speed Comparison

Obviously Vital Proteins arrives fast because you can get it through Amazon, but Paleovalley arrived at my house 5 days after ordering it.

Taste Comparison

As far as taste goes, I would say Vital Proteins is more unflavored, but I actually like the taste of Paleovalley more. Of course, unflavored just means there are no added flavors (although Paleovalley does have quite a few flavored options). The Vital Proteins is less tasty but less flavorful overall, whereas the Paleovalley has a bit of a richer taste, more in alignment with bone broth but much less strong.

Neither tastes that great in water, but in my option the best way to have them in a drink is with a smoothie. You can mix almond milk, frozen blueberries, and collagen powder for a great tasting smoothie.

Cost Comparison

With Vital Proteins, if you get the 1.5lb container (my pictures show the 1.25lb container), you are paying $37.31 for ~34 servings. Paleovalley you are getting 1.12 lbs for $38.99 (if you use this link, navigate to the product and pick the subscription) plus $7.95 shipping and handling. If you get 2 containers, you get free shipping and handling. For that you are getting ~30 servings.

So if you go by purely serving size, it’s ~$1.10 for Vital Proteins per serving and ~$1.30 per serving for Paleovalley. Note there is a slight difference since Paleovalley servings are 15g protein and Vital Proteins are 18g. If you account for the additional 3g of protein, it would be ~$1.56 per 18g of protein for Paleovalley.

I would say however with Paleovalley you are getting higher quality of ingredients, so you may need less to achieve the same goals, especially since the collagen powder from Paleovalley seems more digestible. I experienced bloating with Vital Proteins.

Mixability Comparison

I found both to mix reasonably well. I would say Vital Proteins mixes better in water (videos below) than Paleovalley. But inside of a smoothie you can’t tell the difference.

Some people believe that collagen from cow hides is a hard to digest form of collagen. Bone broth is generally believed to be soothing on the stomach.

It depends on if you care that Vital Proteins collagen peptides are probably sourced from bovine hides, as opposed to grass-fed bone broth.

  • Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides – Hydrolyzed collagen peptides, easy to mix, flavorless, which seem to be sourced from bovine hides (but they don’t specify which parts).
  • Paleovalley Bone Broth Protein – Made from grass-fed bone broth, delivering collagen and extra nutrients from bones, not hides.

Many consumers prefer bone broth-based collagen, saying it’s more complete and natural, while others love the convenience of Vital Proteins.

Which One Works Better?

🔹 Paleovalley Fans Say:
✔️ Noticeable improvements in skin, hair, and joints faster.
✔️ Extra nutrients from whole-food bone broth.
✔️ Great for gut health and digestion.
✔️ Versatile – works in coffee, soups, baking, or even a butter-infused morning drink!
❌ Has a bit of a taste (especially unflavored), but many say it blends well.

🔹 Vital Proteins Fans Say:
✔️ Easy to mix into coffee, smoothies, or oatmeal.
✔️ Helps with skin hydration, nail strength, and joint support.
✔️ No taste, no clumps, just pure collagen goodness.
❌ Some feel it takes time to see results, and a few questioned its effectiveness.

Taste & Mixability

  • Vital Proteins – Truly flavorless, dissolves easily in hot or cold drinks.
  • Paleovalley – Slight natural taste (nutty/brothy), but works well in drinks, recipes, and even baking!

Price & Value

💰 Vital Proteins – More affordable, widely available, but lacks transparency on sourcing.
💰 Paleovalley – More expensive, but made from whole bone broth, meaning extra nutrients.

Final Verdict: Which One Should You Choose?

✔️ Go for Vital Proteins if you want a simple, no-fuss collagen that dissolves into anything.
✔️ Pick Paleovalley if you want bone-based collagen for gut, joint, and skin health with added benefits.

At the end of the day, both work—but Paleovalley wins in sourcing, completeness, and nutrient density. If you’re investing in collagen, you might want to go for the one with actual bones, not just hides.
