Nathan & Sons Underbrush Review
This is the review I wrote the day I received the gum. I got the variety 4-pack, so I had a chance to try all 4 flavors. (Although word is they are releasing a new Kimchi flavor as well.)
The natural gum I just ordered has arrived. I have officially had 6 pieces in 1 day 😅
You probably will want 2 pieces at a time just like me, but it is actually solid gum, especially in terms of taste.
And it comes with an unusual benefit… it makes your gut feel good. Especially if you have it on an empty stomach (although you might get a bit a hungry afterwards).
That’s because it contains mastic gum which is revered for helping fix stomach problems and only grows on Chios island in Greece.
My favorite flavor by far was mint. The cinnamon was second. Honey bun comes third. Berry was my least favorite (despite blueberries being my favorite fruit, this was more like an almost “juicy fruit” gum type flavor.
Cinnamon is your pick if you like cinnamon gum like Big Red.
Honey bun was interesting. You get hit immediately with honey flavor then the remaining flavor after the initial burst wears off is sort of mild.
It was not nearly as tough to chew as pure mastic gum and is a lot more like regular gum. Flavor wise I’d say it’s on point. A bit tougher than normal gum maybe.
Biggest downside? It’s pretty tough to blow bubbles with, even with 2 pieces.
Other than that. Solid. I got the variety pack and tried all 4 flavors today.

Flavor Tier List
My original tier list was that Mint was #1, with Cinnamon coming in at #2, Honey at #3, and Berry (which I would consider more like Fruity) at #4.
I’ll now say that I’m updating my order to Honey at #1, Mint at #2, Cinnamon at #3, and Berry still at #4. I’ve gone through far more honey than any other flavor (with mint at second, cinnamon third, and berry fourth as for how much consumed).
Rankings (Day 1)
| Ranking | Flavor |
| #1 | Mint |
| #2 | Cinnamon |
| #3 | Honey |
| #4 | Berry |
Rankings (After 3+ weeks)
| Ranking | Flavor |
| #1 | Honey |
| #2 | Mint |
| #3 | Cinnamon |
| #4 | Berry |
I think honey has the most enjoyable flavor over time, and has a nice burst of honey initially.
Natural Gum Background
The gums are made with natural gums, many of which are quite uncommon today. Here is a bit of background on the gum.
Did you know that spruce sap, one of the key ingredients in this gum, runs about $500 a pound?

That’s not a typo. It’s one of the most expensive natural ingredients in the world. It was so good, it was actually America’s most popular chewing gum at one point.
The natives loved it for its teeth cleaning and gum soothing properties.
So what happened?
Big Gum happened. They quietly swapped out those natural saps for a synthetic “gum base” — and they’re not required to tell you exactly what’s in it. But here’s what we do know: the two most common chemicals are polyvinyl acetate and butadiene styrene. The same ones used to manufacture glues, tires, and shoes.

That’s the whole reason this gum exists. It’s built on a base of real tree saps with no synthetic fillers…

And on top of that, it’s packed with minerals that actively work to strengthen and clean your teeth while you chew. Not to mention they have mint flavor, with a subtle earthy warmth that actually makes sense once you know what’s in it.
Real ingredients, a real purpose, and you can chew on something natural you don’t have to second-guess.
